Rokita calls on Hershman to stop the false negative attacks

(Avon, IN) – Today, Todd Rokita called on career politician, 18-year Congressional aide and State Senator Brandt Hershman to stop his false negative attack advertising.

Rokita issued the following statement:

“Brandt Hershman isn’t listening to voters. They are tired of politics as usual and they’re tired of the out-of-control spending in Washington. Hoosier voters deserve a grown-up conversation about the survival issues our nation is facing over our growing debts and deficits and the runaway entitlements that threaten our nation’s economic future.  Instead of joining me in that debate, Brandt Hershman has chosen scare tactics and negative attacks.

“While working with Mitch Daniels and others, I built a record of solving problems. I will do the same in Congress to solve our spending problem. The fact is, entitlement spending is out of control and we are living beyond our public means. Entitlement spending accounts for sixty percent of the federal deficit. The cost of the new drug entitlement program is 8.7 trillion dollars. We can’t keep passing on massive debts to our children and grandchildren.

“This is why I join Congressman Mike Pence, Congressman Steve Buyer and others who had the common sense to vote "no" to these unfunded promises. Instead, I would support common-sense restrictions to determine eligibility as well as an approach that better sensitizes people to the cost of health care and prescription drugs. Healthcare reform should focus on market-based solutions that increase free-market competition.”
